How to take care of your socks so they last longer

There is only one chance to make a good first impression, and your socks say more about you than you really think. Just as you take care of other accessories like shoes, you should take care of your socks.

There is a lot of myth surrounding how to care for a sock, with tremendously complicated and ineffective advice. At Besocks, we make it easy and bring you the definitive guide to giving your socks the care they deserve

From today, those unpleasant holes and wear in your favorite socks are gone forever. With these tips, you'll have it done. Take a look at this link to check out our casual collection.

Read the manufacturing labels

The first tip is the most logical and necessary. As with any other garment, before washing it we must find out the fabric composition it is made of in order to use one washing program or another.

Socks are made from a wide variety of materials, with different qualities. The highest quality socks are always made of 100% organic combed cotton, like those you can find at Besocks.

Other cheaper materials such as nylon, acrylic, or polyester are also used, which have much less durability, so you need to be more careful with washing, because they will deteriorate faster than average.

To identify the type of fabric your sock is made of, look at the box or packaging where, by law, brands and manufacturers must detail this information. Then choose a washing program accordingly.

Wash socks at 30 degrees or less

Another important point that also generates a lot of debate is the washing temperature. As we mentioned before, it will depend on the material they are made of, but it is essential to choose the correct temperature.

Neither a temperature so high that it could cause deterioration, nor a temperature too low that prevents reaching the cleaning and disinfection point we need for a garment with such exposure

We recommend washing at a maximum temperature of 30 degrees to prevent them from losing their shape. It is the best way to avoid shrinkage and fiber breakage in the fabric, being a temperature high enough to clean and disinfect.

Wash them inside out so that the design does not deteriorate

Your socks deteriorate for 2 main reasons, the first is that you don't invest as much money in buying quality socks as you do in other garments.

And the second thing that destroys your socks the most is not washing them inside out.
If we had to highlight one piece of advice above all others, it is to wash socks inside out. With this simple action, we prevent the outer part of the sock, where the design is printed, from deteriorating as much as possible.

It's a trick that few people put into practice and that greatly extends the durability and appearance of your socks. From now on, turn them all inside out before putting them in the washing machine, and you'll ensure they come out in optimal condition.

Uses low spin

Another small washing tip that is very effective for extending the life of your socks is to use programs with low spin cycles. A sock does not need high spin programs to remove stains and dirt.

We advise you to wash the socks separately from the clothes with a program that does not exceed 600-800 rpm, so you ensure that the rubbing and friction from high spin programs don't end up ruining your favorite sock.

Do not iron the socks

Another post-wash mistake is ironing socks. It is not a good idea for several reasons. Some socks contain fabrics like nylon or spandex and other synthetic materials that do not react well to the temperatures of irons.

In most cases, they lose elasticity and comfort. The heat from the iron affects the elastic fibers, causing the sock to lose its shape, which can be very uncomfortable. It also affects comfort, as they become stiffer and less pleasant.

Do not use bleach or whitening agents

Another common mistake is using very abrasive cleaning products like bleach or strong detergents. These types of products are suitable for removing dirt from clothing, but they are not made for cleaning socks.

Just do one thing, make sure to use a quality detergent to wash your socks. Higher quality detergents have active ingredients that help remove stains and dirt without the need to use corrosive products.

Air dry

Another important point is drying. The key to extending the life of your socks is not to use a dryer. Often we are in a hurry and end up choosing this option. We advise you not to do it under any circumstances. The best thing you can do is to dry them outdoors at room temperature.

Hang them evenly with clothespins and avoid direct contact with the sun, at least during the strongest hours of the day. That will be enough.

Avoid walking with only one sock as much as possible

Most of the information we have found related to the topic places a lot of emphasis on pre-washing, washing, and post-washing, but for us, they forget an essential part that will help your socks last longer.

And that thing is how you use them. Simply going barefoot with socks (without shoes on) can excessively wear out the sole part of the sock, causing it to gradually wear down.

Keep nails short

Another aspect of use that can deteriorate the condition of your socks is your toenails. The hole in the sock on the foot appears for two reasons. The first is because the sock is of low quality. This won't happen with ours, take a look at the entire collection here.

The second reason why the dreaded hole always appears is having nails that are too long. Without a doubt, nails that are too long are the worst enemies of socks.

Do not force the sock: wear it in its place

Socks, like any other garment, have a specific structure and shape. Wearing the wrong size can cause you to stretch the sock's pattern and it may end up giving way somewhere, especially around the heel area.

Make sure to always choose your size range so that the sock stays in place. Check that the heel pad matches your heel and do not wear it excessively high and stretched, or you could damage the sock's structure.

Now you have no excuse not to take care of your socks. Change your relationship with your socks by following these washing tricks, and extend the lifespan of your fun socks
